Saiunkoku Monogatari tells of a fictional kingdom, Saiunkoku, that is built up of 8 provinces ruled by 8 houses which are each named after a different colour. Upon the anime’s first introduction, I was inclined to think of anime such as Fushigi Yuugi and Haruka Hachiyou Shou, which both depict usually 8 guy guardians, one dumb-seeming heroine who gets sucked into the whole story out of pure incidence, and one likeable emperor whose kingdom is in jeopardy. So like anyone else would, upon hearing the words ‘kingdom, 8 protectors, emperor’, you’d assume that it’s gonna be ‘yeah yeah, same old same old’, and you’d be right, right?
Wrong.
Hehe Saiunkoku at least has a likeable heroine, and a VERY interesting Emperor!!!
The new Emperor, 19-year-old Shi Ryuuki, is rumoured to be uninterested in courtly matters and is said to prefer men. Mmmm… will it be a yaoi anime <3<3<3!!!??? Lolz with a seemingly tailored-for-disaster country like this and a guy who is more than he seems, the anime instantly grabbed my attention (or more likely, the hint of BL did). Thankfully for all you innocent ones out there, the anime is… straight T.T
Therefore feel free to follow the encounters of Kou Shuurei, temporary Emperor’s concubine, as she (yes, she) tries to turn him into a good ruler while trying to fend off his clumsy (or naive?) advances.
And don’t forget the (complementary) train of handsome guys and lovely ladies who appear in almost every scene ^^ EYE CANDY!!!!!!!
Believe me, Saiunkoku Monogatari (A Tale of Saiunkoku) is fun ^_~ and I even prefer it to Haruka Hachiyou Shou… which wasn’t bad at all, if my opinion on this is worth anything at all!!! (Don’t ask me why I’m using that as a basis of comparison ^^” I don’t know either)
Watch it, NOW!!!
(I’m currently borrowing it from MCAC, but methinks I’ll buy the set when I get home o.o I like it well enough for me to buy an actual hard copy, and that is saying something XD)
